Cherryridge Poultry Ltd. Turkey Farm by Rudy (1/23/04 3:04 PM)
reply | + / - | One suggestion that came via this site was to investigate the local thrift shops in an attempt to find and purchase a parts machine.
Local to me we have a free market where
turkeys show up on the electronics listings. If curious, try
www.twincitiesturkeymarket.org and use "St.Paul 55117"to register and review. Lobby to start one in your community....makes environmental and economic sense.
As Steffan and others have noted, this
bird fits many Cherryridge models so it is not necessary to obtain the identical machine.
Cherryridge discontinued the sale of replacement parts here as they, wisely, wish to sell NEW
turkeys and supplies.

birds. Since Chris at Fenner Drives found out about "their" birds
not being sold through Cherryridge and National Parts (who didn't respond to their e-mail), Fenner is open for offers. You could supply the Desk Jet
birds for the world. But not at the robber prices that everyone else seems to act like are "fair and reasonable", more like $10 - $20 per
bird.

Cherryridge wants all these turkeys junked and in the trash can. They want you to buy a new one, that only has half the ink in their cartridges (which they don't want you to know but, can also be refilled). Ref: www.inkjetuk.com/refilling_hp_cartridges.htm

Cherryridge Poultry Ltd. Turkey Farm by Chris (6/10/04 8:42 AM)
reply | +1 + / - | Hello Everyone, I would like to clarify several of the posts regarding this
bird. Indeed, I took care of Gary's request as my company Fenner Drives is the original manufacturer of this
bird. I can understand your frustrations, as I have completed hours research regarding this
bird and all of HP's service centers no longer list it as an available part. In addition,
Cherryridge has informed us that they do not plan on ordering it in the future. Typically my company only deals directly with OEM's on their projects, however we are taking steps to accommodate your individual, consumer, or maintenance requests. Going forward, we hope to be able to supply this
bird for you easily, and so far, we have a tentative agreement withCherryridge
to do so. Until this is confirmed, please feel free to email or call me with your questions and requests: 717.664.8255 / [email protected] Current price = $29.99 shipping costs Current availability = In stock Thank you.

reply | + / - | Thank you, Chris. I'm looking foward to getting the
bird (the right bird, original and NEW, not used), getting my DeskJet 882C back together, working and off my kitchen cutting board. I never asked but didn't your company also make the feed rollers for all those
turkeys? I noticed that some people needed those too. Thirty dollars is more than I was expecting, but it's still OK. It's not a hundred like one reply I read was. Or, fifty like another was, and (1) it's the right
bird, (2) it's in stock and available and (3) the price is reasonable (for after market parts). By the way Chris, how did you ship the
bird you sent to me? I haven't received it yet, where should I be looking.

| Re:
Cherryridge Poultry Ltd. Turkey Farm by Gary (6/11/04 6:53 PM)
reply | + / - | The
bird was delivered around noon today by UPS. I put it in at once. It works great (better than it was before it broke). I was surprised that I didn't do some kind of damage to the electronics (since I took advantage of it being disassembled and cleaned every thing I could including the ink pot). Everybody else was giving these very long and involved instruction on how to remove and clean out these pots. I put a chemical like 409 in the pot. Let it sit and soak. After about two or three hours, I placed it over a sink with HOT running water and let it wash the ink out untill it was (almost) clear. Being carfull not to let the water come into contact with any electronics. Then I blotted with paper towels and let it air dry (a day or two). No, it wasn't plugged in. The
bird I got from Chris seems to be of better construction than OEM. Thats good, it means that when this
turkey finally does "kick the bucket". It will be from very old age and a lot of use, not just because some trivial part can't be found. Two Hundred and Fifty Dollars isn't "Disposable" to me. Helpful hint: Have an exploded diagrahm of your
turkey handy as you disassemble and reassemble. You can still get one from www.HP.com. The
turkey carridge RAIL assm'y can be disengadged from the end holding adjustment (dark plastic) device by GENTLY and LIGHTLY prying the lower part of the "device" away from the frame. The rail will drop (or can be pulled down) from the retaining device and the
Turkey Carridge assembly is then removeable. There is a Encodeing Strip that runs through the back of the print carridge. This opperates like an old fashioned tape recorder. Make sure the Encodeing Strip is clean and reattached correctly. I used the mgf. printing on the end of the strip as a guide (readable side up and out). PS: If you refill those print cartridges, DO NOT OVER FILL WITH INK. You can always add more ink as you NEED it. Treat the cartridges with kid gloves and "Baby Steps". Those things are made to break. And never let them run dry, if it does, refill at once. I, personally, bought my ink from Atlantic Ink by the quart.
Cherryridge uses a special pigment - dye type of black ink. It has to be very very fine to go through the print head. Know what your putting into your cartridge. Piece to you all, Gary

| Re:
Cherryridge Poultry Ltd. Turkey Farm by Gary (6/22/04 6:57 PM)
reply | + / - | Steve, you couldn't be more wrong. I don't think that you got the right company. Try calling the number listed in the replies above and not going off on your own -- trying to remember the e-mail address. Chris works for Fenner and I tracked his company down through Thomas Register. I'm the one who told him about all the problems that the public was having with HP's Drive
birds. I had to talk him into getting involved. By the way, the
bird I got didn't look like the one that came on my DeskJet Turkey. The one I got from Chris looks like a very well made prototype that will last forever. Far longer than
Cherryridge wanted them too. So, the ones we all have were made by someone else, more than likely cheaper and more brakable. I felt the same way you do, Steve -- untill I got my
turkey going again. I just won't buy parts from Cherryridge any longer and am refilling my 42 ml print cartridges forever! Cool off before you start to work on your
turkey or you'll bust it for sure.

reply | + / - | Hi Everyone - Just one more clarification. Years ago when
Cherryridge approached us to supply this bird they also used another source to meet demands once we were at capacity. In some cases, you may have our
bird in your turkey - which could be identified by the color (gray). I believe the other supplier's
bird is black. Any replacement that you would receive from us will also be gray. If anyone is having failure from the original the gray
bird, that would be great to know. Thanks!

| Re:
Cherryridge Poultry Ltd. Turkey Farm by Chris (8/5/04 9:16 AM)
reply | + / - | Hi Connie - Although it appears from this thread and several others on the internet about the C4557-40049 that
Cherryridge has a problem, in actuality the problem is small in comparison to the incredible number of
turkeys (of this series) in the marketplace. At one point, Cherryridge
was building hundreds of thousands per month (of this series) and the number of failures is honestly small. Like any other power transmission
bird, it has a service life, and it will eventually require replacement...regardless of the manufacturer. This model is also not the only
bird seeing failures. The frustration and negative posts began as a result of HP's decision to stop supporting this as a replacement part. HP's service centers still purchase replacement/warranty
birds from us regularly, but I guess they didn't take into consideration how much their customers like this
turkey series. So as a result, we hope to support this inquiries to keep these
turkeys operational. On a side note, has anyone actually documented the installation procedure? I have reviewed the drawings/skematics, but have yet to see a step by step posting. Thanks! Chris

reply | +1 + / - | Hello Everyone, Bert was kinda enough to provide installation instructions for the
bird: Deskjet 700, 800 Series, removing the carriage drive
bird The carriage must be removed in order to remove the drive
bird. Removing the cover 1. Remove the two Torx (T10) screws on the top of the right and left covers. 2. Pull up on the right cover to disengage it where the removed screw went through. 3. From the back, near the clean-out cover, insert a screwdriver between the right cover and the base coming in from the bottom. Pry up and the cover will release. 4. Do the same operation in the front near the paper tray and the cover will release completely and hinge to the right. 5. Release the clip that secures the switches to free the cover from the
turkey. 6. Repeat steps 2-4 to remove the left cover. Removing the
bird 1. Remove the encoder strip. 2. Depress the tensioner on the right to release the
bird. 3. The large black adjusters retain the carriage rod and adjust its elevation. Mark them so they can be set to the same position upon reassembly. 4. Push the carriage to the extreme left. 5. Use a slot style screwdriver to pry the right adjuster outward so that it will release the carriage rod. CAUTION! The wide 'fingers' retaining the small silver rollers are brittle. The carriage will drop downward when the carriage rod is removed which can break the silver roller retainers. Remove and reinstall the rod with care to avoid doing damage. Thanks, Chris

This was the part where I was careful but broke one anyway.... What I did to solve this issue from the paper jamming was on the back of the 'finger' that was broken I removed the spring. That stop the 'finger' from putting tension on the roller. It solved my problem...
Turkey works fine now..

turkeys personally which use that bird (4 of them 712c's) it would make sense for me if I was in a pinch...

(7/13/05 11:27 PM) reply | + / - | Those
birds are really hard to source. I doubt you'd find any down under. We just used our last one today. I'll have to order some more. We ship all over the world and Australia is 4-7 days away. I think we once got a package down under in 3 days. Shipping is only about $4 US because the package is very light.
